Prescription requests can be taken over the phone for shielding patients only. All other requests need to be posted, or via the online ordering process through our website. You may be asked to create a password to use this service.
Coronavirus has changed the way health services work. GP Practices are open, and have been throughout the pandemic, but services are being delivered differently.
If you think you need and appointment, please contact us. It may be something that you can safely manage yourself, so you may want to get advice from the NHS Inform website, or your local pharmacist, before getting in touch.
Most appointments are carried out over the phone, or through NHS Near Me, but if you need a physical examination, you'll need to see a clinician in person. Practice staff will let you know the options available to you when you call.
If you have a face-to-face appointment, the practice may look a bit different, but please follow the guidance to help reduce the risk of infection.

If you have a non urgent inquiry please call between the hours of 09:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 17:00 - Urgent issues after 5pm only.
After 6 pm and before 8 am, please call NHS 24 Monday to Friday.
Weekends please call NHS 24 on 111.

Why does the receptionist need to ask why I need an appointment
It is not a case of the receptionists being nosey.
The reception staff are members of the practice team and it has been agreed they should ask patients “why they need to be seen”. Reception staff are trained to ask certain questions in order to ensure that you receive:

To direct patients to see the nurse or other health professional
rather than a doctor where appropriate
Reception staff, like all members of the team, are bound by confidentiality rules.

In some cases, where appropriate, the reception staff will recommend that the patient visits a pharmacy, dentist or optician instead of making a GP appointment.

If you are unable to make your appointment, please telephone as soon as possible to cancel as this allows someone else to attend in your place.
If you have a general query about the COVID-19 vaccine, please look on the NHS Inform website or use the national helpline 0800 030 8013 which is open from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week. Vaccine rollout to the general public, based on age and underlying health conditions, and will depend on vaccine supply.
Please avoid calling with any general queries about the COVID-19 vaccine as we are unable to give you any more information at this stage and we need to try and keep phone-lines open for people who are unwell and needing medical care. Many thanks for your ongoing patience and cooperation.
If a patient is very unwell and unfit to attend the surgery please phone to request a home visit. The reception staff will ask for some information about the problem so that visits can be prioritised. The Doctor will telephone to get further information if required. The Doctors do appreciate it if every effort is made to attend the surgery if at all possible.
This is enormously helpful to the Doctors and nurses and enables them to see many more patients.
The Surgery no longer provides routine ear syringe appointments. Kits and oils can be purchased for self administration, for advice and what to buy and how to administer please contact your local chemist.
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.

Do you have trouble seeing the same doctor?
This information advises you how best to see the doctor that you want and whether you should see a doctor or a nurse.
Sometimes you may feel this doesn't matter, but for longstanding problems or those that are new and under investigation it may be best to see the same one or two doctors if possible.
